My tips are mostly gleaned from this thread and are. I personally couldn't negotiate the course without accruing fatal damage, even using using the health replenishing 'steam' routes, and never saw Stank Gum again after the first couple of turns So. I knew from experience if I didn't catch Stank Gum early and start getting hits in it was too late. DON'T approach this as a race, but as an interception. I came to the conclusion you have to concentrate on speed and weapon power to shut this 'race' down as quick as possible. So back to the dire keyboard controls and unforgiving obstacle-walled racetrack then. I even tried to change controller to my Thrustmaster wheel, but couldn't get it working even with drivers updates, or an Xbox360 controller emulator. I was smacking my head off the wall on this one, as I was using KB/M and my 'A' button was sticking too! Ended up reassigning the WASD butons to the arrow keys, as they were less worn and problematic. I FINALLY managed this challenge, so I thought I'd jot my observations down while I remembered them. I doubt I'll play this game a second time to find out. At least then I'd have seen if there were some build to compensate for the poor steering issue. I was already maxxed in everything- could have chosen any build I wanted. It's asinine.Īs I said, I wish I'd just have reworked my car for speed, as suggested earlier in the thread. As it is, they're just an infinite number of extras thrown in whenever you're finally doing well enough to have outstripped other cars. So, OK, fine, make it a "race" between just Stank and me with the adds there to screw with me it'd be just as stupid to endure, but at least there would be a meaningful basis for the format of it. So they get to cheat! And they don't even race! They just try to block my forward advance or knock you off. cuz "challenge." I had one race where new spawns came in with 15 sec left on the timer. Are they there for the race itself? Ostensibly other contestants? Then why do they join the "race" 3 min into it? If we started the race with 10- even 20- in front of us with no new ones joining later into the "race," that would be far more reasonable than arbitrarily spawning new ones in at full health just ahead of us. It makes no sense how so many new cars just spawn into the race. However, the most enraging part of the "race" (it's only a race to get to Stank after all, more of a crash-up derby than a race) are the adds. I end up using nitro just to force the car to not veer off the wrong direction due to steering problems. But you have to use it to catch up (and even then when you nitro-push forward four times in a row without a crash you're still not guaranteed to catch up). Even the straight sections are risky for using the nitro since high speed makes the steering liability that much more volatile. So you either collide or you swing much too wide of it and end up colliding elsewhere or simply delayed as you swerve around trying to right yourself from what wasn't even a major obstacle. You click to turn the wheel and instead of a smooth responsiveness to the steering input, it auto-shifts steering a set amount- usually either more than or less than you intended- leaving no room for the subtlety you need to steer just to the side of the flame blast or wall partition or whatever. The issue with it is that it makes steering idiotic, usually (70-85% of the time) understeering or oversteering because the game doesn't give you full control of the steering range. At least five of the race attempts I ended up using the healing sprays to keep from exploding but lost anyway due to the 5 min timer being up, never having been able to catch up. It wasn't in the first 1-2 min of the "race" either. I was going to rage quit as well but after 100+hrs into the game thus far, everything completed, I couldn't not beat my head against the wall of this "race." I finally beat it on, say, my 30th try? 40th? I was using a fairly heavy build with no attention to what the ornaments do and thus had to rely entirely on luck: finally one of the other cars made Stank slow down enough for me to get at him, so I got a finishing poon on him just as I once again veered off the road due to another "racer" and smashed full speed into the side, the car health down to near death again. Wish I'd have tried the stuff listed in this thread.
